SECTION 9 Contacting AltaVista Technology Inc. =============================================================================== SECTION -1- SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS =============================================================================== Before installing MediaWrangler please review the minimum system requirements listed below: 4 MB RAM 386SX (486 recommended) Windows 3.1 Approximately 8 MB hard disk space CD-ROM Drive =============================================================================== SECTION -2- PRINTING THE DEMODOC.TXT FILE =============================================================================== A. Printing the DEMODOC.TXT file: The DEMODOC.TXT file contains step-by-step instructions for running the demos included on this CD. a. Select File|Print from the Windows Program Manager or File Manager. b. Type: c:\mwrangle\demodoc.txt (Substitute the correct path if you installed MediaWrangler somewhere other than c:\mwrangle). =============================================================================== SECTION -3- INSTALLING & RUNNING MediaWrangler =============================================================================== *Important Note!!* The database portion of MediaWrangler requires that the disk drives in your computer have valid, unique VOLUME labels. This is a name that DOS gives to your drive to help identify it. You can assign a VOLUME label to your drive using the DOS label command: 1. From the DOS prompt ( i.e., c:\> ) type: c:\> label d: (where d: is the drive you wish to label) 2. Enter a label of up to 11 characters 3. Thats it! Now MediaWrangler will be able to find your media, even on a network, assuming the label you provided is unique. 4. Repeat steps 1-3 for all drives on your system, ESPECIALLY removeable hard drive cartridges. A. Installing MediaWrangler: a. Select File|Run from the Windows Program Manager or File Manager. b. Enter :\setup.exe on the input line (where is the letter designating your CD-ROM, for example, d:\setup.exe). c. The setup program will then install the MediaWrangler software and a few demo Roundups. d. The setup program will create a MediaWrangler program group and icons which can be used to run the program. B. Damaged or Bad CD-ROM: If you have a bad CD contact AltaVista Sales at (408) 364-8777. =============================================================================== SECTION -4- RUNNING THE DEMONSTRATION ROUNDUPS =============================================================================== Please see the file DEMODOC.TXT in the MediaWrangler directory for step-by-step instructions for playing the demo Roundups. =============================================================================== SECTION -5- RUNNING THE TUTORIALS =============================================================================== MediaWrangler uses Roundup files to demonstrate and teach MediaWrangler concepts. In particular, there are two Roundups that explain the product and provide an interactive tutorial. Their names are Overview and Tutorial. To run the Overview and the Tutorial, click on the Overview icon and the Tutorial icon installed in the MediaWrangler program group. To run these Roundups using MediaWrangler, press the Open Roundup button (second from the left) and load Overview.rdp or Tutorial.rdp. These are located in the directory \mwrangle\roundups which is created by the install routine. =============================================================================== SECTION -6- TROUBLESHOOTING =============================================================================== For a complete list of helpful hints and troubleshooting tips, please see the online help. =============================================================================== SECTION -7- KNOWN PROBLEMS =============================================================================== For a complete list of helpful hints and troubleshooting tips, please see the online help. 1. Some images may come up white. This indicates a low memory situation and can be minimized by closing all open applications, images and hitching posts. =============================================================================== SECTION -8- WHAT ELSE IS ON THIS DISK =============================================================================== 1. Free Media! The MediaWrangler CD contains hundreds of MultiMedia files that you can use to make Roundup files. Roundups containing these media files can be freely distributed. These files are found in the \mwrangle\images... \mwrangle\audio... \mwrangle\text... \mwrangle\video... 2. Templates! Located in the directory \mwrangle\templates, these files are images that can be used as backgrounds, buttons, frames or home images in Roundups. 3. NetCruiser Internet Access Software! Located on the MediaWrangler CD, this program will provide instant Internet access. To install : a. Select File|Run from the Windows Program Manager or File Manager. b. Enter :\netcrusr\setup.exe on the input line (where is the letter designating your CD-ROM, for example, d:\netcrusr\setup.exe). c. The setup program will then install the NetCruiser software. 4. Video for Windows! If your system does not have Video for Windows installed, you may install it from the MediaWrangler CD by performing the following steps : a. Select File|Run from the Windows Program Manager or File Manager. b. Enter :\vfwsetup\setup.exe on the input line (where is the letter designating your CD-ROM, for example, d:\vfwsetup\setup.exe). c.
